I think you be ok hp wise with a 7’10” cut mower with your 5103 John Deere. I pull a John Deere 265 disc mower with a 1977 MF 275 tractor, it 67 pto hp . I been wanting to put that mower on a caddy because it be easier to store it. Depends on several variables: weight of the disc, depth of blade penetration, soil type, soil moisture. I use a heavy 6.5 ft wide offset disc and pull it with my 2008 Mahindra 5525 (55 hp engine, loaded rear tires, about 6500 lb tractor weight). YOu need to pull a disc at 5-6 mph to get it to work effectively. I have plenty of hp in dry soil.Finally have enough ground to cut to justify (I think) upgrading from my sickle mower to a disc mower. I've come across two that appear to be in good shape, both john deere -one 275 & one 285. Both are three point.
